Vocal coaching with Zach Zube · Minneapolis & remote
I coach singers and performers who've put in the work but feel like something isn't connecting. Sessions are one-on-one, somatic, & built around who you are and what you're working toward.
If that sounds like you, let's talk! Reach out and we'll set up a free consultation.
His somatically informed approach helped me actually internalize the techniques and understand my voice.

About
A lot of vocal training prioritizes a set of seemingly arbitrary rules over presence and honesty.
Instead of a list of rules,
we are building a foundation of function you can trust.
Singing with tension, going flat in pitch, or breaking are not failures; they're signals that tell me exactly what we need to do. Working with them, not against them, is the path we take together.
We start with you and end with you,
and your voice follows.
Discovering mixed voice
That blended, flexible middle ground between chest and head voice that carries most contemporary singing. You probably already use it and just don't realize it! We'll find it on purpose and build it into a sound you can count on.
How to use chest voice
aka belt, mix-belt, rock belt
Belting is stigmatized as being an unhealthy way to sing, due to outdated training and a misunderstanding of the mechanics. I can teach you to belt safely and show you it holds up over a string of performances.
Building vocal stamina
Knowing how to sing well is one thing; singing under strenuous circumstances safely and sustainably is another. We can condition your voice for whatever your work demands: tours, 8-show weeks, intense recording schedules.
Understanding vocal care
Employing appropriate warm-ups, cool-downs, vocal rest, and knowing when to modify by changing the key or using different registers.
I work with pre-professional and professional singers, independent artists, and performers. No two sessions look the same; I work responsively to meet you where you are, but the work moves through three beats.
Check-in
Every session opens with a check-in and a vocal sweep, listening for where the voice is starting from today.
Functional work
Functional exercises elicit new habits and balance the voice, and we integrate that work across the whole instrument.
Your music
As the functional work takes root, we bring in your material to coach performance, style, and stamina.
The result? You've built a voice that delivers in recording studios, rehearsal halls, open mics, tours, and eight-show weeks.
Sessions are 60 minutes, over Zoom or in person in Minneapolis.
My Experience
I have worked as a performer grinding out 8-show weeks in theatre, so I know first-hand the pressure and what's at stake when your voice doesn't work how you need it to.
Twenty years across professional theatre, music production, and teaching, alongside training in Somatic Voicework™, yoga, and ayurveda, gives me a wide range of reference points to bring the right tool at the right moment.
Working together

Testimonials
"Zach is an exceptional teacher and an even better human. His somatic, body-first approach has completely changed the way I experience my voice, and he intuitively adapts each session to meet me where I am. I've made more progress in one year with him than I did in three years of classical training."
"I've worked with many vocal coaches, but Zach is the first who has been able to show me how to confidently achieve the sound I want. He's able to create a calm and supportive environment that makes it easy and comfortable to learn, and his somatically informed approach has helped me actually internalize the techniques and understand my voice (and body!). I would highly recommend Zach to anybody who has bounced off of rigid or confusing vocal instruction in the past."
"Before finding Zach, I was working with a few vocal teachers where I didn't feel comfortable unleashing my voice. Zach offers a somatic and comfortable approach to voice training, and I always feel at ease during our sessions. I have noticed a lot of progress in my voice, and Zach has helped me come out of my shell and sing more to my potential."
